Weezer has announced their new self-titled album, scheduled for release on Aug. 21. The 10-track project has been nicknamed the ‘Gold Album’ by fans and media due to its distinctive metallic cover art. This marks the 20th full-length record of the band’s career and serves as the latest addition to their color-themed discography, which already includes the blue, green, red, white, teal, and black albums.
Produced by Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume, the upcoming record is Weezer’s first full-length album since 2021’s Van Weezer and OK Human, following the band’s four-part SZNZ EP series.
The album announcement arrived alongside the debut of the album’s lead single, “We Might As Well Be Strangers,” which features guest vocals from Karly Hartzman of the indie rock band Wednesday. The song was released with an accompanying music video as the band unveiled details of the project. The album includes Rivers Cuomo’s first songwriting collaboration with drummer Pat Wilson since the band’s debut era. The track list includes “Say Yes,” “Shine Again,” “Don’t Make It Weird,” “C.E.O.,” “Hoops,” “Nowhere,” “The Show Must Go On,” “Up In The Clouds” and “The LA Sound.”
To support the launch of the new LP, Weezer is scheduled to embark on a 32-date North American concert series labeled The Gathering tour this autumn. The tour is set to begin on September 8 in Sacramento, California, and will feature opening performances from alternative acts The Shins and Silversun Pickups.
